Light-Up 3D Wooden Puzzles

The last step of the build: switch on the LEDs and watch the wood come to life.

A light-up 3D puzzle adds one last step to the build: the moment you switch on the LEDs and the wooden model comes to life in the dark. The model is built like any 3D puzzle, then becomes a small mood lamp for a shelf, a nightstand or a desk.

What light changes in a 3D puzzle

During the day, you see the wood, its cutouts and its joints. In the evening, the light draws the scene: the openwork lets bursts of light through, the windows glow, the shapes stand out. The same object has two faces, and that's what makes these kits so charming.

Two examples in this section. The Eiffel Tower by night, whose lattice frame stands out like a shadow play, is on the product page of our 3D Wooden Eiffel Tower Puzzle. The Japanese tram beneath the cherry trees evokes a quiet street in spring, with pink blossoms above the car: a world close to our Japanese miniature house kits.

Choosing the right light-up 3D puzzle

  • The mood: a landmark for an urban touch, a Japanese scene for a softer corner. Think about the room it will go in.
  • The power supply: it varies from one model to another. Check the kit's product page to see what's included and what you'll need, so you can light up your model as soon as the last piece is in place.
  • The level: the lighting adds a few steps to the build, with nothing technical. Each kit's difficulty is shown on its product page.

All our models are gathered in the 3D wooden puzzles section.

Types of lighting, from the simplest to the most animated

Not all lighting produces the same effect, and not all of it requires the same care during the build.

Type of lighting Effect Example
One LED in one element A point of light that makes a tower or a window stand out Big Ben, 220 pieces, beginner
Several LEDs spread out A diffuse light throughout the whole scene The Cherry Blossom Tram, 6 LEDs, 223 pieces
Variable modes Steady, wave, breathing or flashing Eiffel Tower, 4 modes, 152 pieces

Also choose based on where the model will go:

  • on a desk: Big Ben, 19 cm tall, or The Cherry Blossom Tram, with a footprint of 23.2 x 14 cm;
  • on a high shelf or a console table: the Eiffel Tower and its 52.5 cm, which becomes the living room's night-light;
  • for a first try: Tower Bridge and its 113 pieces, at beginner level.

Building a model with LEDs without stress

Test the lighting before you start, so you know it works. Then follow the instructions to the letter for running the wires: they usually go in during assembly, and they're harder to add once the structure is closed. Never pull on a cable to adjust it—guide it. Keep the switch within reach. And if a piece is too tight, lightly sand the edge: precision tools (tweezers, mini hammer) are available as options.

And to light up a model that doesn't have lights yourself, our guide to adding LEDs to a model explains the wiring step by step.

Light-up 3D puzzle FAQ

Do you need to know anything about electrics?

No. The lighting is built into the kit: you place the LEDs and run the wires where the instructions show you, step by step.

Can you leave it on like a night-light?

It's a mood-lighting decor piece. Switch it off when you leave the room, and keep it away from heat sources and humidity.

What if a piece or an LED arrives damaged?

Send us a photo with your order number: we'll send you a replacement. Delivery takes within 5 to 15 business days, depending on your country, shipping included, and an unassembled kit can be returned within 30 days in its original packaging.

Light inside wood is also the signature of our book nooks: lit-up alleys to slide between two books on your bookshelf.
