One more lit window on your bookshelf.
Early on a spring morning in a Kyoto alley: the lanterns go out one by one, and the wooden facades still smell of last night's rain. Kyoto Alley brings this scene to your bookshelf, and it glows with a warm light when night falls.
A Japanese book nook you build yourself
This is our entry kit into the world of Japan: a narrow alley, hanging shop signs, and that warm light filtering between the tightly packed facades. Beginner level, 223 pre-cut pieces, no cutting and no painting: the scene comes together in three to five hours, then slides between two books like a bookend that tells a story.
Who is it for? A calm, hands-on hobby for your evenings: hands busy, mind at ease. An original gift you build and keep. A touch of Japan for a shelf, once evening comes.
Assembled dimensions: 25 × 18.5 × 17 cm (width × height × depth, fully opened)

Your questions about the Kyoto Alley book nook
Your questions about this kit
How long does it take to build?
Allow 3 to 5 hours, in one go or in short twenty-minute sessions.
What if I've never built a model before?
This is a beginner-level kit: pre-cut pieces, nothing to cut, illustrated instructions. If you get stuck, our customer service team will help you out.
Why is the depth given "fully opened"?
Because the alley unfolds in depth: the front facade and the back wall aren't on the same plane, and that offset is what creates the perspective. The 17 cm listed is the scene once it's fully opened out: that's the measurement to compare with the depth of your shelf, not the 25 cm width.

How the Kyoto Alley book nook compares to our other kits
In our Japanese collection, Kyoto Alley sits right in the middle. Its 223 pieces are more than double the 96 of the Little Izakaya (one of the shortest builds in the catalog), but less than half the 478 of The Kyoto Bazaar, which takes 5 to 8 hours and moves up to intermediate level. Here you stay at 3 to 5 hours and beginner level: it's the kit to pick for a truly detailed scene without stepping up in difficulty. Compare it with The Kyoto Bazaar.
A world to build. A light to switch on.
This kit is part of our Japanese book nooks and, for its lanterns, our illuminated 3D puzzles. In the same collection, discover Sakura Rain next, the little shop under the cherry blossoms. You'll also find it on our diorama kits page, and alongside all our wooden kits on the 3D wooden puzzles page.
