One more lit window on your bookshelf.

A miniature Japanese tea pavilion, tucked between two books like a window onto somewhere peaceful: a sliding shoji door, a cherry blossom folding screen, a bonsai and a stone lantern. The Bonsai Pavilion brings this zen scene to your bookshelf, and it glows softly when night falls.

Halfway between a book nook and a miniature house

This is our in-between format: slim enough to slide between two books like a book nook, sturdy enough to stand on its own like a little miniature house. The shoji door really slides, the bonsai takes pride of place in the center, and the stone lantern casts its shadow once the LED is on. Beginner level despite its 150 to 220 pieces: the instructions guide you through every step.

Who is it for? A calm, hands-on hobby for your evenings: hands busy, mind at ease. An original gift you build and keep. A zen, Japanese-inspired touch for a shelf or a desk.

Assembled dimensions: 17 × 12.5 × 12 cm

Your questions about this kit

How long does it take to build?
Allow 3 to 5 hours, in one go or in short twenty-minute sessions.

Does it go between two books or stand on its own?
Both—and that's the whole point of this in-between format: slim enough to fit into a row of books, sturdy enough to stand alone on a desk or a shelf. It measures 17 × 12.5 × 12 cm once assembled.

How The Bonsai Pavilion miniature house compares to our other kits

Among our Beginner-level kits, The Bonsai Pavilion sits in the middle of the pack: 150 to 220 pieces and a 3 to 5 hour build. It's a notch above the Little Izakaya and its 96 pieces built in 2 to 3 hours, but without the jump to the 258 pieces of Sakura Rain, the biggest book nook still rated Beginner. It's the kit you pick second, once you've finished a first one: right before moving on to Sakura Rain.

A pavilion to build. A light to switch on.

This kit is part of our Japanese book nooks and our miniature house kits. The Japanese loop comes full circle with Kyoto Alley, the lantern-lit alley that launched the collection. Like all our pre-cut wooden scenes, this kit appears on the 3D puzzles to build page.
