All sails set, varnished hull, resting on its two cradles.
The Harco is a two-masted sailboat built with all sails set: mainsails, topsails and jibs spread all the way to the tip of the bowsprit. The hull stays in dark varnished wood, with visible planking and no paint. It sits on a base with two cradles, made for a shelf or a display case.
A wooden model ship kit with all sails set
The hull is built the way a shipwright would do it: frames on the keel, then planks laid one by one. The deck gets its rudder and capstans. Then come the two masts, the yards, the long bowsprit, and finally the longest and most beautiful part: the thread rigging and the canvas sails. No painting step: the hull stays in bare wood.
Who is it for? For anyone who wants an impressive display boat and enjoys long, calm building sessions.

Your questions about the Harco Sailboat
Your questions about this kit
Do I need glue?
Use regular wood glue (not included): on a planked hull, it guarantees a sturdy boat. Our guide to glue for wooden model kits helps you pick the right one.
Do I need to paint it?
No: the hull is varnished wood, no paint. Only the rigging takes some patience.
How do I protect it once it's finished?
The sails attract dust: a soft brush now and then is all it takes. Our article on how to protect your model kit has more tips, display cases included.

How the Harco Sailboat compares to our other kits
It makes a pair with The Harvey Sailboat: same two-mast size, but with a black hull. And for a really big project, The Seahorse Three-Master and its 603 pieces.
All sails set. And not a breath of wind required.
